Session Abstract
The protection of sensitive information is of course paramount for all industries; it is of particular importance as the cannabis industry evolves. As the legal use of marijuana for medical purposes expands, so too does the responsibility to protect patient data to the same extent that any healthcare organization must. This includes data protection standards at or exceeding those required by the HIPAA Security Rule. The additional necessity of protecting employee and investor information compounds the need for organizations in the cannabis industry to implement robust information security programs – not only to minimize the likelihood of a data breach but to mitigate the impact of a security incident through well practiced response procedures.
